Stay Connected to Your Clients, Peers and Fellow Marketers Through SMPS-OCThe 2008/2009 SMPS-OC Board ends its rein in just a few short months, and we are in
high gear with lunch programs, workshops, webinars, the CPSM Study Group, the upcoming launch of our Mentorship–Protégé Program in September, and the National Conference in Las Vegas from July 15–18.
SMPS-OC’s luncheons, workshops, webinars, and the National Conference are all great venues to hear the latest on what is happening in the A/E/C industry, and an ideal venue to network your firm’s capabilities and get in front of potential clients. Our Mentorship Program will soon offer mentors and protégés the opportunity to grow, and I encourage you to participate. We are currently seeking seasoned marketing and business development professionals to assist in the implementation of this program. I encourage you to participate in your SMPS Chapter. Committee positions are now available and are a great way to jumpstart your networking and guide you in a career path. Giving just one or two hours of your time per month may well be worth the effort.
It has been a wonderful experience for me to serve as your President. I have made many new contacts and friends that I cherish. I look forward to staying involved with the Chapter for many years to come and encourage you to do the same. After all, it’s your Chapter and you can make a difference!

SMPS-LA AND SMPS-OC: JOINT EVENT (APRIL 14, 2009)
Government as an Economic Engine: How Southern California Cities are Responding to the Development DownturnThank you to all who attended our annual joint event with SMPS-LA! It was a great turnout with over 100 attendees from the combined chapters. We would like to give a special thank you to the representatives from the Cities of Anaheim, Long Beach, Santa Ana, and Tustin for providing us with information regarding their cities’ current economic status. The speakers’ Powerpoint presentations, as well as event photos, are available on the SMPS-OC website.
Orange County Great Park: What’s Next (May 19, 2009)
Last month we had a great turnout of nearly 60 people as we heard Glen Worthington from the Orange County Great Park give us an inside look at the overall plan for the Great Park and the opportunities that are on the horizon for the A/E/C industry.We will be posting Glen’s presentation on our website in case you would like to have it for your records or in case you missed this event!

Our goal is to strive for perfection in all three phases.
Cal State Fullerton Student Housing Phase III includes five 5-story buildings with 240 beds per building. These buildings are designed with hollow core precast/prestressed planks supported on concrete masonry walls. This method of construction provided the university some important advantages, including resistance to fire with no need for additional fire proofing, reduction in sound transmission compared to stud and drywall construction, and due to the inherent thermal mass characteristics of concrete, reduced utility costs. Use of the plank and CMU framing system resulted in a cost efficient solution and our successful bid for this design/build competition.
